The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus

In 1998, Brian Rothschild, a former songwriter and keyboard player for the band I Am Siam, created the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus in order to provide young people with an environment in which they could experience music.  The Bus became a non-profit organization in 2000 and since then it has travelled across America and through parts of Canada. Visitors are allowed to explore the studios onboard and participate in songwriting and multimedia production workshops.  On tour year-round, the Bus makes stops at schools, concerts, music festivals, community centers and conferences.
In addition to being introduced to state-of-the-art resources, students learn how to write, produce, record, and perform original songs.  The Bus travels with a staff of three recording and multimedia engineers who work closely with students to provide personalized education and instruction. Students will be given the opportunity to create music videos using traditional instruments and current technology tools.  The video projects take less than a day to complete and students are able to leave with DVDs of their work.  Everyone who visits this mobile recording and video production studio is encouraged to have a fun and creative day while experimenting with their musical surroundings.

The John Lennon Songwriting Contest

This international contest began in 1997 and allows both amateur and professional songwriters to submit entries.  The contest is open year-round and it is divided into two sessions when entries can be submitted.  Each entry will be judged on originality, melody, composition and lyrics (when applicable).  Instrumental compositions are also encouraged.  Songs can be composed in any of the following 12 categories: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk and Children’s.  Musical artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, The Bacon Brothers, Jesse Harris, Teairra Mari, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees and John Legend are just a few of the members on the Executive Committee of Judges.
After the entries have been judged, prizes will be awarded to 72 Finalists, 24 Grand Prize Winners, 12 Lennon Award Winners and one recipient of the Maxwell Song of the Year.  Some of the prizes include EMI Publishing Contracts, studio/musical equipment, Apple iPod Shuffles, gift certificates and one winner will be chosen to tour and perform on the Warped Tour ’08 for one week.  The winner of the Song of the Year will receive $20,000 courtesy of Maxell Corporation and an Apple Computer with Cinema Display and Logic Pro software.
